Last night Osama Bin Laden was killed. The SEALS took him and his son and a couple of other people out in a nighttime fastrope strike. He (OBL) chose death rather than surrender. I approve.
What I don't like was the pictures of people dancing in the streets of Times Square. At this point I have to wonder about what we've become. I remember the people of Rome screaming in joy as the leopards tore the people on the floor of the Colosseum to pieces. Are we the new Romans? I pray not.
This.
ReplyDeleteThe term "yahoo" came to mind. I didn't think it'd bring such joy to people if/when it ever happened. I thought it would be a quiet, "he-had-it-coming" kind of thing.
His execution was well earned, no doubt. I don't think most folks have realized that it's now time do the work of getting the fuck out of Afghanistan---now that we're mired in and have found our beloved ally next door had him stashed in the suburbs after all. Really, America? You missed that part? Or was this interfering with that episode of "DWTS" you missed?
The U.S. has put itself in a no win situation. The are 2 choices;
ReplyDeletea. We Stay or
b. We leave.
Abandoning Afghanistan will let the Taliban (and therefore Al_queada) re-insinuate itself. This in turn will result in an extreme intervention by us to destroy the threat. Staying continues the trouble we have now.
The true root problem is the corruption of the Afghan govt. What we consider corruption they consider ordinary business dealing. This cultural difference will constantly be in the way of progress.
